Thank you for taking time out of your day to fill out this survey.
The idea is simple enough -- I am trying to build a better search engine. As a
Website Designer I have been battling to get customers sites seen for years. Sure,
there are tricks to the trade - but should there be? One of the biggest problems I have
found is the way search engines actually search. Currently when you type in the words
" Alaska fishing charters " (for example) you
may find what you are looking for - but somewhere in the returned results you will
also find sites with titles such as " Come Blue Marlin Fishing With Us!!"
Now for those who don't already know: THERE ARE NO MARLIN IN ALASKA!! It
is unlikely that a consumer who typed in a search query for Alaska fishing charters
was looking to go blue marlin fishing off the coast of Florida.
Here is the problem when you type in a query such as the one above, the computer
running the engine places equal value on all words and has no clue that the word "Alaska"
is more important than "fishing" or "charters" It is our goal to
create a Search Engine that will overcome this issue, so that graphical location takes
precedence over other key words. In addition, I will be looking into many other issues
that plague Web Designers and Website owners alike when it comes to Search Engines.
Please note: we only used "Alaska Fishing
Charters" as an example. This is a survey to help us build a better global
search engine. The same situation may apply to search queries for " New York
hotels," "California real estate," North Carolina travel agents,"
etc.....
- We need your help. In order to create a better Search Engine we need
input from folks just like you. Only with people similar to yourselves will we be able to
succeed in our goal.
