Katmai Spirit...

Katmai Spirit cruises begin in King Salmon, Alaska, with a bus ride to Lake Camp at the west end of Naknek Lake, Alaska's fourth largest lake. The M/V Katmai Spirit cruises east through magnificent Naknek Lake offering spectacular views of Katmai National Park. Enjoy a continental breakfast while listening to tales of the park or taking in the fabulous vistas on the way to the park's headquarters and Brooks Camp.

Naknek Lake is a myriad of lakes in one: the milky green glacier-fed lliak Arm to the south and east; the bay of islands to the north characterized by hundreds of geologically-fascinating rock piles and isles which provide deep secret holes for world-famous trophy rainbow and lake trout; and Johnny's Lake, an almost totally-enclosed lake-within-a-lake along the north shore in the middle of the lake. A tour of Naknek Lake may provide glimpses of arctic tundra underpinned by icy permafrost, sparse forests of black spruce, grand mountainsides sweeping from Lakeshore into the clouds, a mother bear with trio of cubs playing leap-frog up the trunk of a towering cottonwood at the sounds of intrusion, views of the mountains and glaciers of The Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes, and powerful salmon in their spawning colors struggling up small streams toward their ultimate destiny.
